Macron: Only Trade Union-Organized Rallies Will Be Allowed on Saturday

French President Emmanuel Macron said that only protest rallies organized by trade unions will be allowed on Saturday.

After a meeting of the Security Council, Macron stated: "Legitimate demonstrations organized by trade unions will be considered in accordance with the law, and they will be allowed taking into account security conditions. Any other protest that is not organized by trade unions will be banned, everywhere where this is possible".

According to local authorities, all protest rallies planned in the city of Lyon for October 24 have been banned.

According to Macron, last Saturday saw "political and insurrectionary actions organized by ultra-left groups, whose aim is to overthrow the republic".
