Amnesty International and the Georgian Young Lawyers' Association (GYLA) are issuing a joint statement. The organizations express concern over increasing reports of torture and other forms of ill-treatment in Georgian prisons.

According to the statement, the allegations concern sexual violence, beatings and threats. The organizations also express concern over reprisals against prisoners who publicly speak out about the abuse.

The document reviews recent allegations, including the case of Giorgi Davitadze. According to the organizations, the failure to effectively investigate allegations of torture in prisons reinforces impunity.
