Two Defendants Sentenced to Five Years Each for Spreading Intimate Material in Gurjaani

The Gurjaani District Court found two defendants guilty of driving a person to suicide and of unlawfully storing and disseminating information containing private life secrets. Each was sentenced to five years in prison.
According to the Prosecutor's Office, the court upheld the evidence it had submitted. The examined materials confirmed that the defendants obtained intimate photo and video material depicting the victim's private life from her using a fake Facebook page.
The defendants then unlawfully disseminated this material with the aim of damaging the victim's dignity and reputation, and sent it to her family members and acquaintances. As a result, the victim found herself in a severe psychological state and took her own life.
The defendants were found guilty under Article 115, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (driving a victim to suicide through threats and cruel treatment) and Article 157 Prima, Part 2 (unlawful storage and dissemination of private life secrets through a social network). Taking into account the aggregate of offenses, each was sentenced to five years in prison.
