Axios: Trump Agreed to Diesel Deal with Putin Over Ukrainian Strikes

Axios: ტრამპმა დიზელზე პუტინთან შეთანხმება უკრაინის დარტყმების გამო გააფორმა

The American outlet Axios writes that Donald Trump agreed with Putin on a diesel fuel deal because Ukraine did not stop strikes on Russian oil refineries despite his request. The outlet's information was provided by an informed source.

According to a senior American official, Trump made the decision after Zelensky ignored several requests and did not stop strikes on Russian oil refineries.

According to the outlet, Zelensky told Trump and his representatives, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, that he would stop strikes on refineries if Russia stopped attacks on Ukrainian power plants.

According to the official, Trump wanted Ukraine to unilaterally stop these strikes, because in his view they contributed to high fuel prices in the United States. Trump did not consider strikes on Russian refineries equivalent to Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy system.

"Zelensky is misjudging the situation. By continuing strikes on [Russian] oil refineries, he is weakening the goodwill that he has built with Trump over the past six months," said the outlet's source.

According to Axios, during eight-hour talks in Miami, Trump's representatives informed the Ukrainian delegation that Trump would hold a conversation with Putin and would lift sanctions on the import of Russian diesel fuel.
