The US will broadcast live the execution by firing squad of the man who killed 13 people at the Fort Hood military base in 2009. Reuters reports the information, citing the Pentagon. According to the outlet, broadcasting the execution in the US would be an unprecedented case.

Former army psychiatrist Nidal Hasan will become the first person since 1945 to be executed by firing squad by the US Armed Forces.

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth confirmed in a post on the social network X that Hasan's execution is planned to be broadcast live. "We will ensure that people see it and that the process is public. Because people must understand that such actions will have serious consequences," Hegseth said.

Asked whether Hasan has any last request, Hegseth replied: "I don't care. We will see him on December 3."

A military court jury sentenced Hasan to death in August 2013, after he was found guilty of premeditated murder and attempted premeditated murder in 45 counts. The shooting took place several weeks before Hasan, who is now 56, was due to be deployed to Afghanistan for military service. During his arrest, he was partially paralyzed by gunshot wounds inflicted by police and was confined to a wheelchair.

Under US military law, the execution by firing squad must be approved by the president. According to the Pentagon, President Donald Trump, on Hegseth's recommendation, has already done so.
