Man Arrested in Kutaisi for Fraudulent Sale of $96,000 Apartment

Officers of the Kutaisi City Department of the Imereti Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs arrested a person with a prior criminal record on charges of fraudulently appropriating a large amount of money. The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported this information.

The investigation established that the suspect convinced a citizen during the construction of a residential building at a specific address in Tbilisi. He signed a purchase agreement with the victim for an 80 square meter apartment for $96,000. On this basis, the citizen transferred part of the money in installments to bank accounts indicated by the suspect.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, construction of a residential building at the address specified in the agreement was not underway, and the suspect deceived the victim and misappropriated the transferred money. The material damage caused to the citizen by the crime amounted to $13,500.

The suspect was detained on the basis of a court ruling as a result of operative measures and investigative actions.

The investigation is being conducted under Article 180 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for imprisonment for up to 9 years.
