Officers of the Kakheti Police and the Patrol Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained one person in Sagarejo Municipality on charges of premeditated murder of two people committed under aggravating circumstances. According to the ministry, the case was opened immediately after the incident.
According to the agency, on November 5 in one of the villages of Sagarejo Municipality, the suspect shot two people several times with a firearm over a past conflict and then fled the scene. As a result of the injuries sustained, both men died.
Police seized the weapon used in the crime as material evidence. The investigation is being conducted under Article 109 of the Criminal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
The incident took place when the brothers were on their way to a relative's wedding. According to information, a fellow villager ambushed them and opened fire.
Elman Usufov, the only one of three brothers to survive, said that at around 17:00 he was walking with two of his brothers and a classmate when a car stopped and shooting began in their direction. Usufov says he took cover behind the car itself, while his brothers were killed on the spot.
"There were four of us - three brothers and a neighbor. Suddenly a car stopped and shooting started. He fired many times. Nothing had happened in the past, we had no conflict. My brothers died on the spot. Police have already questioned me," said Elman Usufov.
