Man Convicted of Violence Against Wife and Child in Telavi Arrested in Zestaponi
The Kakheti Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained a man with a prior criminal record. He is charged with threatening a family member, domestic violence committed in the presence of a minor, and violence against a minor.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the investigation established that on October 31 in Telavi, following a verbal altercation, the man, who had recently returned from abroad, physically assaulted his wife in the presence of their minor child and threatened to kill her. He then also committed violence against the child and fled the scene.
According to the agency, as a result of operative measures and investigative actions, the suspect was detained in Zestaponi, in the Imereti region, while still in hot pursuit.
The investigation is being conducted under Articles 126 Prime and 11 Prime 151 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. It provides for imprisonment of up to 3 years as punishment.
