The international scientific conference dedicated to the 1700th anniversary of the Christianization of Georgia was held at the Georgian Technical University (GTU). The event took place within the framework of events dedicated to the anniversary.

The conference was attended by Metropolitan Ananias of Manglisi and Tetritskaro, Metropolitan Davit of Abba Alaverdi, Metropolitan Grigol of Poti and Khobi, Metropolitan Andria of Gori and Ateni, Metropolitan Stepane of Chkondidi, Bishop Melkisedek of Margveti and Ubisi, and Bishop Svimeon of Surami and Khashuri. Students and invited guests also attended the event.

GTU Rector, Academician Davit Gurgenidze, said at the opening that the 1700th anniversary of Christianization is the most important event in the country's history. According to him, this date offers an opportunity to comprehend the values that shaped the development of Georgian statehood, national culture and public consciousness.

According to Gurgenidze, the university is responsible not only for research into modern technological and scientific challenges, but also for the scientific understanding and popularization of the country's historical and cultural heritage. The rector noted that technical and humanitarian sciences should not be considered in isolation from each other.

According to him, the marking of the 1700th anniversary of Christianization should not be limited to jubilee events only. It should become a basis for new scientific research, in-depth study of historical sources, protection of cultural heritage and strengthening of international academic cooperation.

Clergy also addressed the conference participants with welcoming remarks. They drew attention to the importance of the conference and wished participants successful work and fruitful discussions.

Metropolitan Ananias Japaridze, head of the Theology Teaching and Research Center of GTU, said that the conference aims to provide a scientific understanding of the historical, religious, cultural, philosophical and civilizational significance of Christianization, to study Georgian Christian heritage in many dimensions and to deepen academic cooperation.

According to him, the spread of Christianity and the cultural processes developed on its basis played an important role in Georgia's historical ties with Byzantine, European and Near Eastern civilizations.

The conference proceeded in three sections, within which participants discussed 32 research topics.
