Kakhiani Responds to OSCE PA Vice-President's Statement: Criticism of Constitutional Process Is Wrong

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Giorgi Kakhiani responded to the statement of Gudrun Kugler, Vice-President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. According to him, making critical statements about the constitutional process is wrong.
Kakhiani states that similar practice and relevant decisions exist in a number of countries. According to him, the ongoing process at the Constitutional Court is public, and no questions should arise in connection with it.
"This is an ordinary constitutional process. For Georgia, of course, such a consideration has not been held regarding the issue of declaring a political party unconstitutional, when we are talking about it, however, such practice exists in a number of countries. There is the practice of the Strasbourg court and relevant decisions. Making any critical statements about what is a constitutional process is, naturally, wrong. The process is public, society sees how the case is being considered at the Constitutional Court, therefore, this publicity is also a guarantee that the process will be impartial. Therefore, what the constitution provides for, what is established by the constitution, naturally, no questions should arise in connection with it", says Giorgi Kakhiani.
OSCE PA Vice-President Gudrun Kugler calls on the Georgian government to withdraw the lawsuit filed with the Constitutional Court regarding the banning of parties and to "stop politically motivated legal persecution".
