Kallas: Any Peace Deal Must Bar Russia From Renewed Attack

Any agreement on ending the war must prevent Russia from using force again. EU High Representative Kaja Kallas said this in Warsaw at a joint press conference with Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.

According to Kallas, the agreement must not be used by Russia as a pause for rearmament and attack.

"We cannot say when and how Ukraine and Russia will reach a peace agreement. We can say what is needed to make it real," she said.

Kallas explained that for any agreement to be implemented, the EU must be part of it: "From security guarantees, sanctions, reconstruction, to Ukraine's EU accession, there is no way to bypass the EU."

According to her, Europe has fundamental security interests regarding Russia. "We are not mediators, we firmly stand on Ukraine's side," Kallas said.
