Bochorishvili: New Alliances Will Form Even If Five Parties Are Banned

Beka Bochorishvili, a member of "Gare Sakartvelo" (For Georgia), told Palitranews' program "Free Studio" that protest is an integral part of political life, but the date of decisive elections is when the population makes its choice. According to him, there are many examples where even a single vote proved decisive.

Bochorishvili spoke about the elections held in Serbia and drew a parallel with the situation in Georgia. In his explanation, it is necessary for society to consolidate and understand how important each vote is.

"We saw elections in Serbia and we saw how protest was maturing over the last two years and what caused it. The cause was exactly the whole series of political decisions and actions that brought society to the point where students, whose leader had no political past, came into the political arena," Bochorishvili said.

According to him, an unprecedented number of people went to the polls in Serbia. Street protest is important, but if society does not consolidate, does not go to the polls and does not state its position, everything will remain static.

Asked what options remain for opposition-minded voters if five parties are banned, and how competitive elections will be without the banned parties, Bochorishvili spoke about the idea of creating alternative parties and developing new approaches. He cited, for example, an IRI survey, according to which the majority of the population wants changes in the country.

"For example, I will cite a survey that one of the opposition parties commissioned, and in which about 60% of the population supports changes in the country. This does not mean support for any party; on the contrary, a very interesting fact in this survey is that the ratings of political parties were set absolutely low, but they want changes," he said.

According to Bochorishvili's assessment, if five parties are banned, there will be an attempt to create other parties and new types of alliances, and new approaches will be developed. "In any case, the population will not go anywhere from its protest and its demand for changes," he said.
