Macron Rejects Interior Minister's Resignation Offer

French President Emmanuel Macron has rejected the resignation offer of Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez. Reuters reports this, citing the Élysée Palace.
According to a statement from the Élysée Palace, Macron stated that Nuñez should remain in office to ensure the continuity of the transmission of orders in the police and security forces. The president also instructed the minister to develop new approaches to deal with marauders as quickly as possible.
Demonstrations held across the country on Saturday turned into unrest: aggressive groups clashed with police in various cities, a municipal building was set on fire and shops were looted. On Sunday, clashes took place in Paris and Marseille, where police intervened to prevent attempts to loot commercial premises.
The protests were triggered by public discontent, which is linked to rising living costs, the deterioration of public services and the situation in schools.
