Macron: Protesters Should Not Be Equated With Those Who Smashed and Looted

French President Emmanuel Macron said that tomorrow the French prime minister will lead a meeting. According to him, the aim of the meeting is "to mobilize support for those going through a difficult period".

According to Macron, the reasons for the protest must be analyzed, because people took to the streets with fair demands. "We must analyze what society expressed. Hundreds of thousands of our compatriots took to the streets with fair demands. Under no circumstances should we equate protesters with those who smashed things, caused disorder and looted", he said.

The president also spoke about the geopolitical situation. In his words: "There are fair grievances related to the cost of living and fuel prices. Many of the causes of this are linked to the Persian Gulf war; France did not take part in it, yet we are reaping the consequences. We share their concern. This concern also exists in many other European capitals".

According to Macron, the investigation will be carried out "with maximum diligence". In his words: "We have called on the prosecutor's office to show maximum strictness; the legal response must be exemplary".

The president stresses that those who "smashed things must compensate the damage, they are responsible for their actions".
