4 People Detained for Seizure of Narcotics in Especially Large Quantities

Employees of the Patrol Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, together with the police departments of Adjara, Kvemo Kartli, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti, detained 4 people at different times. One of them is a citizen of a foreign country.

The detainees are charged with illegal acquisition and storage of narcotic substances in especially large quantities, assisting in acquisition and storage, facilitating the sale, and illegal cultivation of a plant containing narcotic substances.

According to the ministry, during covert audio-video recording conducted on the basis of a court order and searches of the detainees' personal and residential homes, narcotic substances in especially large quantities, prepared for sale, were seized as evidence. Among them are "Mephedrone", "Tetrahydrocannabinol", "Methadone", "cannabis plant" and "marijuana".

The investigation is being conducted under Articles 25-260, 260, 260 quarter and 265 prime of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for imprisonment of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
