Man Sentenced to 12 Years for Violence Against Minor Stepson

The Tbilisi City Court found the defendant guilty of torture of a minor family member and violation of the inviolability of a dwelling. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison. The Prosecutor's Office reported this.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, the court fully upheld the evidence presented by the prosecution. The evidence examined during the trial confirmed that the defendant, in order to punish the minor for failing to follow his instructions and assignments, inflicted physical abuse on him. He then took him into the bathroom and poured boiling water over him for a certain period of time.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, the evidence also confirmed that the defendant, against the will of the victim and using force, broke the door of the victim's residence and entered inside.

The charges were brought under Article 11 Prima 144 Prima, Part 2, Subparagraph "z" of the Criminal Code of Georgia (torture of a family member, committed by the perpetrator against a minor with prior knowledge) and Article 11 Prima 160, Part 1 (violation of the inviolability of a dwelling against a family member).
