European Commission allocates €2.86 billion to Ukraine for defence needs

The European Commission has allocated €2.86 billion to Ukraine. The funds are part of the defence component of the €90 billion loan supporting Ukraine.
The allocated funds will be used to purchase drones, air defence systems, missiles, radars, electronic warfare systems and combat materiel.
According to the European Commission, the indicative distribution of the loan for 2026–2027 is as follows: €60 billion will go to defence and €30 billion to budgetary support. In 2026 alone, €28.3 billion is planned for strengthening Ukraine's defence industrial potential. Further defence tranches will also be disbursed in the coming weeks.
"Ukraine is preparing for its fourth winter since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion. Immediate delivery of defence equipment will ensure that the Ukrainian Armed Forces can protect the civilian population and cities from Russian attacks," the European Commission said in a press release.
The European Commission explains that all decisions on funding are based on Ukraine's changing needs and are subject to agreed conditions and monitoring. Since 2022, the European Union and its member states have provided Ukraine with a total of €231.5 billion in support. Of this, €3.8 billion comes from revenues generated by frozen Russian assets.
For the remainder of 2026, Ukraine will receive another €29.64 billion in financial support. Of this, €25.24 billion is provided under the Ukraine support loan: €12.54 billion to strengthen Ukraine's defence industrial potential and €12.7 billion for budgetary support.
For budgetary support under the Ukraine Facility, another €4.4 billion is envisaged for this year. Thus, in the remaining months of 2026, Ukraine can receive more than €17 billion in budgetary support, provided it meets the conditions set out in the Ukraine Plan and the Memorandum of Understanding.
