A protest in the Albanian capital Tirana related to education and social issues turned violent. Students threw bricks and concrete blocks at the building of the Ministry of Education. The information is reported by Reuters.

Police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse the demonstrators. Several protesters were detained.

Albanian Deputy Prime Minister Albana Koçiu said: "Violence has never been and will never be a solution. Throwing stones, attacking state institutions and the police, as well as senseless destruction of public property, is not the way young people should express themselves".

According to the student organizers, the protest is linked to conditions at universities, the cost of higher education, financial support and employment prospects after graduation. Some protesters said they wanted to express inequality and dissatisfaction with the government.
