Kuroua: Party Ban Lawsuit Is Political Process From Start to Finish

Opposition politician Boris Chele Kurua said that the lawsuit regarding the banning of parties is a political process and political decision from start to finish, which will not be made in the courtroom. He said this on the "Palitraniusi" program in "Political Space".
Kurua also spoke about former Constitutional Court judge Manana Kobakhidze, whose powers as a judge were suspended based on her own application. In his words, it seems there is no longer room in the court for Kobakhidze to express even a dissenting opinion when decisions are made, so she chose to leave her post.
Kurua said this means the decision has already been made, and on political issues the Constitutional Court becomes an instrument of political action and a "notary" that nods to the ruling party. In his assessment, this is bad for democracy and society, because the Constitutional Court gives people an important lever for protecting their rights. Kurua said that very soon this instrument will decline, like the Public Defender.
Kurua also noted that "Georgian Dream" is destroying an important lever for protecting human rights in order to retain power. In his words, Manana Kobakhidze could have written a dissenting opinion or not signed the decision, but it seems there is no room for this either, and in this part the judges of the Constitutional Court are not independent.
"In my deep conviction, the decision on this has already been made," Kurua said.
