"Strategy Aghmashenebeli": Attempt to Ban Opposition Is Legalization of One-Party Dictatorship

"Strategy Aghmashenebeli" has issued a statement according to which the attempt by "Georgian Dream" to ban the opposition is a direct blow to the Georgian state, to democracy and to every citizen's free choice. The coalition believes that this is the legalization of a one-party dictatorship through the use of the Constitutional Court.

The statement says that by abolishing the opposition, "the regime" is trying to ultimately suppress the voice of the people, so that it does not have to answer for the extremely difficult socio-economic catastrophe in which the citizens of Georgia live.

"Today the Georgian people find themselves in unbearable conditions - catastrophically rising prices for basic consumer goods and medicines, unemployment is raging, insufficient incomes and deteriorating daily living conditions are sinking families into a swamp of hopelessness and despair. Under the corrupt governance of the regime, citizens no longer have the opportunity to live with dignity in their own homeland, which has resulted in the breakup of families and the wave of mass emigration by which the country is emptied every day," the statement says.

According to "Strategy Aghmashenebeli", the government has no answers to these challenges and wants people to no longer have a choice in 2028, and for everything to continue as it is now. The coalition warns that a country where the government can no longer be chosen by the people is distanced from Europe and left without friends, weakens and becomes more vulnerable to Russian influence.

According to the same position, no one has the right to take away the people's choice and trade in Georgia's sovereignty, trample the aspiration for multiparty democracy, restrict the citizen's freedom of choice or ban the diversity of political tastes. The coalition believes that Georgia's European future has no alternative.

According to the assessment of "Strategy Aghmashenebeli", stopping the banning of parties and saving democracy is the main task, which concerns not only politicians but every citizen. The coalition calls on everyone for whom freedom is dear to stand together and defend the democratic and dignified future of the country.
