Samadashvili: Banning Parties Is an Attempt at Constitutional Coup

One of the leaders of "Lelo-Strong Georgia", Salome Samadashvili, responded to Georgian Dream's session yesterday and the planned discussions on banning parties at the Constitutional Court. In her assessment, Bidzina Ivanishvili needed to leave his comfort zone, hold a majority session in person and tell his team not to be afraid to go ahead with this crime in order to encourage his political group ahead of a great crime.

According to Samadashvili, "They know well that they face the most severe political and legal responsibility for what Ivanishvili is preparing today against the Georgian state and the constitution".

By her own explanation, banning political parties is in fact an attempt by Georgian Dream and Ivanishvili to carry out a constitutional coup in the state using the Constitutional Court. Samadashvili says this will have two consequences: over a million citizens of Georgia will lose the right to elect their representative, and the right to political choice will be abolished in the country; at the same time, the European door for Georgia will be finally closed, which directly contradicts the constitutional order.

According to the politician, there are serious internal rifts in Ivanishvili's team while preparing for such a major crime. For example, she named one of Ivanishvili's oldest friends and allies who left the Constitutional Court and said this shows how acute the issue is.
