Kobakhidze: We Will Make a Humane Decision on Convicts in October 4 Case If There Is Remorse

კობახიძე: 4 ოქტომბრის საქმეზე მსჯავრდებულებთან ჰუმანურ გადაწყვეტილებას მივიღებთ, თუ სინანული იქნება

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze spoke about plea agreements signed by those convicted in the October 4 protest case. According to him, although these people have been found guilty of very serious crimes, the government is ready to make a humane decision regarding each of them if there is remorse, acknowledgment and repentance.

Asked whether part of the opposition does not support the plea agreement with the convicts, Kobakhidze said that "for radicalism, they would prefer there to be more prisoners".

"There is a radical part of the opposition for which, of course, it is acceptable to have as many prisoners as possible in the penitentiary system, I mean those prisoners who are serving sentences for violent acts. This is their agenda, for radicalism they would prefer there to be more prisoners. We have made a very clear statement on this issue: although these people have been found guilty of very serious crimes, we are ready to make a humane decision regarding each of them - if there is remorse, acknowledgment, repentance, in this case these people will leave the penitentiary institution," Kobakhidze said.

According to the prime minister, the goal of these people is radicalism, polarization and escalation, while the aim of the government is to strengthen peace. Kobakhidze added that the government makes decisions that will best serve the correct development of the country.
