Ceasefire Regime Takes Effect Around Oleshky, Some 6,000 People Remain in City

Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said a ceasefire regime has taken effect in the vicinity of Oleshky, a temporarily occupied city in Kherson Oblast.

Lubinets said: "Today, at 03:00 Kyiv time and 04:00 Moscow time, a ceasefire regime has taken effect in certain territories in connection with the implementation of a humanitarian mission. The parties are observing the agreements we reached with Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yan Lantratova."

According to the ombudsman, the ceasefire took effect as part of a humanitarian mission. Ukraine is carrying out the mission together with Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yan Lantratova, with the mediation and coordination of Melania Trump, the first lady of the United States.

The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed the ceasefire. According to the agency, in connection with preparations for a humanitarian operation in the Oleshky area, Russian armed forces ceased fire in the Kherson direction and introduced a "silence regime" from 04:00 on October 27, 2026.

Oleshky has been occupied since the first days of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. Since May 2026, food supplies to the city have been impossible, and the Russian army does not allow residents to evacuate. According to Ukrainian data, 6,000 people remain in the city under Russian blockade.

The White House said a few days ago that Melania Trump had brokered a ceasefire in Oleshky between Russia and Ukraine. According to the statement, the parties agreed to temporarily halt combat operations to allow humanitarian aid delivery and the evacuation of civilians through a safe corridor.

Melania Trump said: "Today the situation in Oleshky is terrible. Oleshky is a city on the front line, on the verge of catastrophe. The remaining population in Oleshky consists mainly of elderly people who urgently need medical assistance, medicines, food and clean water. It was completely clear that without my intervention, delivering humanitarian aid to the city and evacuating elderly people would have been impossible."
