Rubio: War in Ukraine Is Being Fought for Donbas

According to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the war in Ukraine is being fought for Donbas.

Rubio explained that people constantly talk about it being a war in Ukraine, but in reality it is linked to one region. "People constantly talk about it being a war in Ukraine. This war is linked to Donbas. It is linked to one region of the country. Essentially, it is linked to 11% of one part of this country, which Russia wants and which it cannot take by military means, while Ukraine does not want to give it up," Rubio said.

According to him, Ukraine has very good reasons why it does not want to give up Donbas.

"It concerns its sovereignty and long-term security. The question is whether a compromise is possible. For this war to end, both sides will have to make certain concessions. This war cannot be resolved by military means," the US Secretary of State said.
