Makhashvili: Claiming Serbian Elections as Own Victory Shows Opposition's Illusions

Levan Makhashvili, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on European Integration, stated at a plenary session that claiming the Serbian elections as its own victory shows how deep the illusions of the Georgian "unconstitutional opposition" are. In his words, when a political force has neither a national platform nor public support, copying others' scenarios will not produce any result.
According to Makhashvili, the only way to bring about change is elections, that is, respect for the will of one's own people and for the legal system.
In his words, the opposition has once again misread the political lessons of Hungary and now Serbia. Makhashvili said these forces have for years been imposing on the public the idea that street noise by itself changes the government, that a declared boycott dissolves parliament, and that press conferences or resolutions turn into political victories.
Makhashvili asked whether the "unconstitutional forces" are ready for this. In his view, the experience of recent years shows what they are ready for: boycotting elections, storming state institutions, insulting the Orthodox Church, torturing their own people, handing over the country's lands to occupiers, and refusing to acknowledge defeat in elections they lost and showing disrespect for voters.
In Makhashvili's assessment, the Serbian example in fact works against the destructive narrative of unconstitutional parties. In his words, when people are offered endless chaos, destruction and endless boycotts instead of a plan for the country's development, that is where their political philosophy ends.
