Georgian Parliament Chairman Shalva Papuashvili accuses the European Commission of using Soviet methods against Georgia. He made the statement while answering a question related to the European Commission's enlargement report.

According to Papuashvili, representatives of the Georgian government are sitting at the dialogue table with the European Union, while EU representatives are circling around this table and choosing a confrontational path instead of dialogue.

"Unfortunately, we see the immature foreign policy of the European Commission, not only towards Georgia but also towards other candidate countries. Until the European Commission changes this immature policy, it is difficult to imagine that any constructive steps will be taken on their part. We have repeatedly said that we are sitting at the dialogue table with the European Union and waiting for EU representatives to sit down at this table, but we see that they are circling around this table - choosing a confrontational path instead of dialogue. This is also the destruction of European values and leading Europe towards a civilizational abyss. The European Commission has declared its main tactic towards many countries, including Georgia, to be confrontation, escalation and not dialogue. This is not a European value at all. On our part, we try to act civilized and European, but unfortunately, from there we see Soviet methods, which is not surprising, since we see post-Soviet leaders in the leadership of the European Commission. Although they left the Soviet Union, they could not remove Soviet behavior from their conduct. It seems they brought those methods that were characteristic of the Soviet Union towards small countries. We usually see Soviet methods from the European Commission towards Georgia - confrontation, escalation, pressure, coercion, instead of dialogue. We remain European, the European Commission is behaving non-European," said Papuashvili.

The European Commission will publish its annual enlargement report on November 4.
