Papuashvili on Recommendation to Suspend Patarkiladze's Powers: "We Have Trust in the Prosecution. Let's See Whether They Investigate!"

Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili commented on the prosecution's recommendation, according to which the powers of Giorgi Pataridze, Director General of the Special Penitentiary Service, should be suspended. Papuashvili said that the investigation on this topic is generally ongoing and that there is trust in the prosecution.

Papuashvili was asked whether the recommendation means that a prisoner was indeed placed in David Future's cell and subjected to violence, for which Pataridze is responsible. According to him, this does not confirm that.

"No, of course, this does not confirm that. It confirms that the prosecution is conducting an investigation, and if it needs anything to carry out these procedures, it can apply. The justice system in Georgia, of which the prosecution is a part, is independent, they have procedural legislation within which they operate, which is adopted by parliament. If we have any procedural issue, we talk about it through laws, through amendments to procedural legislation. The rest is already a matter for independent constitutional bodies. I am not in the know on these issues and cannot be informed in such detail, since we have trust in the prosecution. Let's see whether they investigate!" Papuashvili said.

The prosecution addressed the Ministry of Justice with a recommendation that the powers of Giorgi Pataridze, Director General of the Special Penitentiary Service, be suspended. This was announced at the prosecution. The agency inquired at what stage the investigation launched over information related to David Future is.

According to the agency's explanation, the criminal case was transferred from the General Inspection of the Ministry of Justice to the investigative unit of the General Prosecutor's Office for investigation. All necessary investigative and procedural measures are being carried out intensively on the case.
