Kereselidze: If Party Is Banned, Its Mandates Will Have No Force

კერესელიძე: პარტიის აკრძალვის შემთხვევაში მის მიერ მიღებულ მანდატებს არანაირი ძალა არ ექნება

Shalva Kereselidze, chairman of the parliamentary faction "Gakharia for Georgia", says that if the Constitutional Court bans its party from political activity, the party will leave the legislative body. He stated this in Parliament.

Kereselidze said it is unclear to the party what it is accused of: "We cannot understand what crime we are accused of, and tell us, perhaps you will tell us, the chairman and members of the Constitutional Court, what we are accused of. In reality they cannot tell us, neither can representatives of "Georgian Dream" tell us, they say – we will tell you later… If our party is banned, if they ban its political activity, then I think that the mandates received by this party in the Parliament of Georgia will have no force and no value. They will have no value because these mandates belong to the party, and if our party is banned from political activity, then naturally we will no longer have anything in Parliament, these mandates will no longer have any value or force."

The Constitutional Court began hearing the lawsuit filed by "Georgian Dream" on October 21 seeking to ban five opposition parties. The lawsuit asks the court to declare the activities of the parties "Unity – National Movement", "Coalition for Change – Gvaramia, Melia, Girchi – It's Time", "Strong Georgia – Lelo, for the People, for Freedom!", "Federalist Party" and "Gakharia for Georgia" unconstitutional and to ban them.

The lawsuit is being considered by the plenum of the Constitutional Court. It includes judges: Revaz Nadaraia (presiding), Eva Gotsiridze, Giorgi Tevdoradze, Goga Kikilashvili, Sergo Metopishvili, Giorgi Modebadze and Vasil Roinishvili (rapporteur judge).

The party "Gakharia for Georgia" ended its boycott on October 20, 2025, and 12 deputies entered Parliament.
