Papuashvili: Radical Opposition Would Have Lost in Serbia Too, and Has No Chance of Winning in Georgia

Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili says that opposition parties in Georgia have no chance of winning, and that if they were in Serbia, they would also be defeated there. He made the statement in response to a question about Vucic's defeat in the Serbian elections.

According to Papuashvili, the terms "pro-Putinist" and "pro-Russian" are a false narrative, the establishment of which in various countries Brussels is trying to achieve. In his words, the position of Hungary's current government on foreign policy issues over which Orban was criticized has not changed much.

Papuashvili asked a question about the radical opposition: "As for the radical opposition, why did they celebrate the events related to Nepal? Why did they celebrate Hungary, or why are they celebrating now? - They are neither Nepalese, nor Hungarians, nor Serbs! They are not Georgians either - this is an anti-Georgian formation, which we are watching!"

The parliament speaker also drew a comparison with the Serbian opposition. In his view, there, an opposition group took to the rallies carrying icons and calls for a referendum on EU membership, and says that Kosovo's independence will never be recognized. Papuashvili said that in Georgia, the opposition attacks the church, says that Brussels' instructions must be carried out, and calls Abkhazia and Tskhinvali a trauma that we must remove.

In his assessment, the opposition is trying in vain to find parallels. Papuashvili said that attempts were made in Georgia to carry out a revolution of journalists, NGOs and parties, and finally a revolution of foreign politicians and ambassadors in 2024, but none of them succeeded. According to him, the matter is not in methods but in content, and the radical opposition is devoid of national content.

Speaking about Hungary, Papuashvili noted that the issue does not concern pro-Russianness, pro-Europeanness or pro-Americanness. In his words, Magyar is not anti-Russian or pro-European but pro-Hungarian in outlook, and acts in the way that is important for Hungary's national interests.
