Government Asks Parliament to Assign Deputy Minister Prime Minister's Special Representative Role

The government has applied to parliament with an initiative to amend legislation. According to it, the first deputy minister or a deputy minister may be assigned the function of special representative of the Prime Minister.
The project also provides that the first deputy minister or deputy minister may, in addition to their duties, exercise the authority of the head of a legal entity of public law or an agency subordinate to the relevant ministry within the ministry's sphere of governance.
The changes are included in the law "On the Structure, Authority and Rules of Operation of the Government of Georgia". Parliament will consider it under an expedited procedure.
According to the government's explanation, adding these functions does not provide for additional remuneration, and they will be performed without compensation.
Last week, the first deputy foreign minister Giorgi Zurabashvili was appointed special representative of the Prime Minister for issues of relations with Russia.
