Chubinidze's lawyer: detention is absolutely incompatible with the law

According to statements by lawyer Nona Filauri, who represents Dito Chubinidze, a journalist of "Asavali-Dasavali" detained on charges of sabotage, she did not expect any other decision from the court. The lawyer said Chubinidze is charged with a less serious crime, therefore using detention as a preventive measure is absolutely incompatible with the law.

Filauri said that at the investigation stage Chubinidze was not even questioned.

"At the trial, Chubinidze stated that he is a political prisoner. He is being punished solely and exclusively because he is a journalist and touched on a topic that was unacceptable to someone.

The charge is based on Lazare Jorbenadze's interview. The investigation began in February, when Lazare Jorbenadze was still alive, but he was not even questioned.

Accordingly, all comments Dito Chubinidze used in his newspaper publications or speeches concerned only information received from the respondent.

"Responsibility for any information provided lies solely with the respondent," said Nona Filauri.

The Prosecutor General's Office detained Dito (Domenti) Chubinidze, a journalist of "Asavali-Dasavali", on charges of treason, specifically sabotage. The agency explained that "since February 2026, Dito Chubinidze has systematically spread false and disinformation reports using various media outlets and social platforms."

Chubinidze was placed in pretrial detention as a preventive measure.
