Zurabishvili: Approving Keynishvili Was a Deliberate Political Choice of Georgian Dream

Former President Salome Zurabishvili, the fifth president of Georgia, says that the approval of Nana Keynishvili as a member of the National Bank Council was a deliberate political choice of "Georgian Dream". She spread the statement on social media.

According to Zurabishvili, the new attack by "Georgian Dream" against her and the attempt to assign her responsibility for the election of Keynishvili is "another farce to cover up political amnesia, unprincipledness and their own helplessness". In her assessment, when the ruling team's political calculations fail, it "in its usual style tries to rewrite history and blame others for its own mistakes".

Zurabishvili asks why "Georgian Dream" did not have a single question when for years it was denouncing leading financiers and economists and rejecting their candidacies. According to her, the ruling team had a political illusion and a calculation that it would appoint its own obedient "player" to the National Bank Council. Now that this calculation has turned against them, the parliamentary majority is trying to shift responsibility onto her.

"I declare with full responsibility: the approval of Nana Keynishvili with 84 votes was directly a deliberate political choice of "Georgian Dream". Responsibility for its political decisions fully lies with the parliamentary majority, and they will not be able to escape this responsibility through any cheap propagandistic tricks", writes Zurabishvili.

On October 9 it became known that the Prosecutor General's Office had launched an investigation against Nana Keynishvili under Article 337 of the Criminal Code. This article refers to the unlawful participation of an official or a person equated to an official in entrepreneurial activity.
