Iranian Activist Mohammad Mahdi Rahimian Detained in Tbilisi

The Ministry of Internal Affairs confirms that Iranian activist Mohammad Mahdi Rahimian was detained in Tbilisi. According to the agency, the Iranian citizen's asylum seeker status was terminated as of June 26, 2026, and he has no other legal basis to remain in Georgia.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, administrative proceedings against Rahimian were initiated on October 12 of this year. The ministry explains that he entered Georgia on April 22, 2022, and on December 26 of the same year applied to the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs seeking international protection.

Human Rights Georgia states that if Rahimian is deported to Iran, his life and health would face a real and immediate threat. The organization says the detained activist and his wife have two minor children who attend a Georgian school.
