Kvijinadze: Salaries and Pensions Growing Faster Than Prices

Parliament's Finance and Budget Committee Chairman Paata Kvijinadze told the media that salaries and pensions are growing faster than prices.
A day earlier, Kvijinadze noted that raising a deputy's salary by 1,080 lari would cost the budget 1.3 million lari annually, while increasing pensions by one lari each would cost 11 million lari.
On October 12, Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze also spoke about pensions and called the 45-lari increase impressive.
From January 2027, the pension for people under 70 will rise by 12% in nominal terms, from 370 to 415 lari. The pension for people aged 70 and older is also rising by 12%, from 495 to 555 lari.
Since April, inflation has been fluctuating within 5-6 percent. Accordingly, pensions are also growing in constant prices, though on a smaller scale.
In 2025, nominal salaries grew by 10%, and by 5.7% in constant prices. In the second quarter of 2026, the growth rate of real wages fell to about 2% compared with the same period of the previous year.
