Matikashvili: No One Is Being Deprived of the Right to Appeal, This Is Complete Nonsense and a Lie

Georgian Dream deputy David Matikashvili claims that presenting the changes planned to the Election Code as if someone is being deprived of the right to appeal is a clumsy attempt to mislead the public. According to him, this is complete nonsense and a lie. Matikashvili was explaining the news related to appealing the CEC's summary protocol in court.
According to his explanation, the protocol drawn up by the precinct election commission is precisely the format to which all interested persons should respond when election violations are detected.
According to Matikashvili, the appeal of the CEC's summary protocol and the court's decision to uphold it will depend on only two issues: to what extent the CEC technically reflects the information contained in the summary protocols of precinct commissions, and what decision the court will make. According to him, the court will accept the complaint for proceedings only if it detects a technical error in this regard. The deputy assessed that this is logically correct, because the real dispute takes place in the precinct commission.
"Certain forces have misinterpreted the innovation and, with their own interpretation, explained that someone is supposedly being deprived of the right to appeal. The right to appeal has been established by law until now, and no one is touching it. The protocol drawn up by the precinct election commission is precisely the format where all interested persons should respond when violations are detected at the polling station and file the appropriate complaint," Matikashvili said.
According to the changes planned by Georgian Dream deputies, the summary protocol for all elections, including parliamentary, Tbilisi mayoral and city council and municipal elections, will be drawn up within 15 days of voting. The CEC will summarize the results of all types of elections, while district commissions will no longer take part in the summarizing process.
