Armenian citizens have moved one step closer to visa-free travel to the European Union. European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos announced this.

According to her, with the support of the European Union, Armenian citizens will be able to obtain new biometric passports. This will speed up border crossing procedures and make travel easier.

"Armenia is choosing closer relations with Europe, and we are ensuring that this choice delivers real results for its citizens," Marta Kos wrote on social media.

The issuance of biometric passports in Armenia began on November 1. The introduction of the biometric system is one of the important components of visa liberalization with the European Union. Currently, Armenia is the only country conducting a dialogue with the European Union on visa liberalization.
