Peskov: Dialogue with Brussels Impossible Because It Talks of Strategic Defeat for Russia

According to Russian President's Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov, the European Union's statements on the necessity of inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia make dialogue with Brussels impossible.

Peskov recalled that on Tuesday, a phone call took place between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Finnish President Alexander Stubb, as well as Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. The call was held at the initiative of Helsinki and Oslo.

"Now we see two leaders who have decided to speak at the national level, while almost all the others and, most importantly, Brussels still only talk about inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia. With such an approach, it is impossible to talk with them", Peskov said.

According to him, Europe should sit at the negotiating table on settling the conflict related to Ukraine, but given its current approach, such participation would make no sense.

"The situation here is very difficult. On the one hand, they should sit at the negotiating table. But why do they need to be there now, with such an approach? It makes no sense. That is why they are currently not at the negotiating table", Peskov said.
