According to Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, the alternative to the events surrounding the Constitutional Tribunal would have been the transformation of Poland into a presidential republic.

Sikorski wrote on X: "Last night in Warsaw, the events around the Constitutional Tribunal were not elegant, but the alternative would have been to allow an unconstitutional transformation of Poland into a presidential republic". According to him, "Poland is still governed by a coalition government elected by parliament".

On Friday evening, law enforcement officers and demonstrators clashed near the tribunal building. The situation escalated after an order by judge Anna Korwin-Piotrowska was published on the tribunal's website. The order suspended the powers of the tribunal's chairman, Bogdan Święczkowski, and his deputy, Bartosz Szczucki.

Later, a statement was posted on X and on the tribunal's page, saying that the website had been hijacked and that chairman Bogdan Święczkowski continued to perform his duties.

Jarosław Kaczyński, leader of the Law and Justice party, accused Prime Minister Donald Tusk's government of seizing the Constitutional Tribunal by force.

The opposition's protest action near the tribunal building continued throughout the night. Later the situation became tense again when President Karol Nawrocki arrived at the site and tried to enter the building.
