Ukraine Elected Member of UN Human Rights Council

უკრაინა გაეროს ადამიანის უფლებათა საბჭოს წევრად აირჩიეს

Ukraine has been elected a member of the UN Human Rights Council. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced this on the social platform X, thanking all UN member states that supported Ukraine's candidacy.

According to Sybiha, Ukraine is joining the council while continuing to defend its people and sovereignty against Russia's ongoing aggression, which has caused serious violations of human rights and international humanitarian law.

According to the minister, as a council member Ukraine will prioritize accountability for such violations, support international mechanisms for their documentation and investigation, protect military prisoners of war and illegally detained civilians, and continue efforts to return deported and forcibly transferred Ukrainian children.

Sybiha states that, based on its own experience, Ukraine will work with partners to strengthen accountability, defend human dignity, consolidate the international human rights architecture and address new human rights challenges facing the world.

Ukraine was elected to the council for the 2027-2029 term, for a two-year period.
