Trump Asks Gilfoyle to Leave Post as US Ambassador to Greece

Donald Trump has asked US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle to step down from her post. According to media reports, the basis for the decision is allegations of inappropriate conduct.
According to a statement by Eric Deters, a former donor to Donald Trump, Guilfoyle asked him in a text message a few days before the Senate confirmed his candidacy to transfer $100,000 to pay off a debt on his American Express credit card. Deters said that in return, Guilfoyle promised him access to the administration.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed information about Guilfoyle's departure at her first briefing with journalists.
According to media reports, Guilfoyle was married to California Governor Gavin Newsom from 2001 to 2006, and later married businessman Eric Villens. She has long been close to the Trump family. From 2018 until the end of 2024, she had a romantic relationship with the president's son, Donald Trump Jr., and the two were engaged for nearly four years. Guilfoyle was appointed as Washington's representative in Athens in September 2025.
