The share of monetary gold in the international reserves of the National Bank of Georgia is growing. The growth of the portfolio was driven by the purchase of additional gold worth $500 million in June and October. As a result, as of October, the value of the National Bank's monetary gold reached $1.365 billion, which is 16.6% of total international reserves.

The National Bank first began investing in monetary gold in 2024. Diversification of reserve assets and their effective management is one of the strategic priorities of the NBG. The goal of investing in gold is to diversify international reserves and protect them from volatility in global financial markets.

Georgia's total international reserves also reached a historic maximum. As of October 2026, their volume amounts to $8.25 billion, which is 47.2% more than in the same period of the previous year. Compared to the previous month, reserves increased by $82.6 million.

The reserve adequacy indicator also improved. The ARA metric, determined by the methodology of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), stands at 130%, which exceeds the 100% indicative threshold set by the Fund.

The long-term policy of the National Bank provides for the accumulation of international reserves, effective management and diversification of reserve assets. In favorable market conditions, the NBG replenishes reserves. In January-September 2026, the bank's net purchases totaled $3,370.7 million.

The National Bank will publish updated reserve data on December 7, 2026.
