Trump on Habbard Meeting: Foolish People Wanted to Impose Sanctions on Russia

US President Donald Trump met with American Steven Hubbard at the White House. Hubbard had been convicted in Russia for fighting on Ukraine's side. The 74-year-old man was released on October 21.
Trump said that in a conversation with Putin he would demand Hubbard's return and at the same time impose sanctions. "How would that be. I would talk to President Putin: 'Mr. President, I want Steven Hubbard returned. By the way, we will impose sanctions on you right now.' Can you imagine that? Foolish people wanted me to impose sanctions on Russia," Trump said.
Hubbard himself said at the meeting with Trump that "the Russians are mocking these sanctions".
