US ambassador to Poland: events around Constitutional Tribunal are very serious

US Ambassador to Poland Tom Rose has assessed the events unfolding around the Constitutional Tribunal as very serious. He said so in a post on social network X.
"We are witnessing an unprecedented confrontation related to the government's use of state power and the independence and authority of a constitutional body. Both sides offer completely different versions of what happened and why. What Poland needs least right now is a confrontation that could escalate into far worse events," the US ambassador writes.
According to Rose, the US is on Poland's side and continues to support it.
"It is not our place to interfere in Poland's internal affairs or to judge it. We care about the stability, security and democratic future of a country that we proudly call a friend and ally," the ambassador states.
On Friday evening, law enforcement officers and demonstrators clashed outside the building of the Polish Constitutional Tribunal. The situation escalated after an order by judge Anna Korwin-Piotrowska was published on the tribunal's website, suspending the powers of the tribunal's chairman Bogdan Świeczkowski and his deputy Bartosz Szczucki.
Later, a statement was posted on the tribunal's page on X saying the website had been hijacked, while chairman Bogdan Świeczkowski continued to perform his duties.
Jarosław Kaczyński, leader of the Law and Justice party, accused Prime Minister Donald Tusk's government of seizing the Constitutional Tribunal by force.
The opposition's protest outside the tribunal building continued throughout the night. Later the situation tensed again when Polish President Karol Nawrocki arrived at the site and attempted to enter the building.
