Constitutional Court Plenum Accepts Lawsuit to Ban Opposition Parties for Consideration

The plenum of the Constitutional Court has accepted for consideration the constitutional lawsuit of Georgian Dream on banning opposition political parties.
The lawsuit seeks the ban of almost all major opposition parties. Among them are "Unity – National Movement", "Coalition for Change Gvaramia Melia Girchi It's Time", "Strong Georgia – Lelo, for People, for Freedom!", "Federalist Party" and "Gakharia for Georgia".
The secretary of the session is Darejan Chaligava.
From October 13, the powers of Manana Kobakhidze as a judge of the Constitutional Court were terminated ahead of schedule. According to the court, this happened "on the basis of a personal statement".
On October 12, it became known that Kobakhidze had requested self-recusal from the "case on banning opposition parties", but she was refused. In her statement, as is known to the public, she was a founder of "Georgian Dream", the party chairperson and a member of parliament. Moreover, she had been actively criticizing, from various platforms and publicly, the defendant side in constitutional lawsuit No. 1979 and the main figure party "Unity – National Movement" and its specific members, some of whom now represent various political parties named in the lawsuit.
