Gogolashvili: Decision to Ban Parties Is Bestial Approach That Goes Beyond Morality

European Union policy researcher Kakha Gogolashvili responded to the scheduling of hearings on the constitutional lawsuit seeking to ban opposition parties. According to him, the decision to ban parties is a bestial approach that goes beyond morality.
Speaking on the "Free Studio" program on Palitranius, Gogolashvili said that a person cannot have any connection with European civilization and considers it possible even to talk about banning parties.
"I cannot imagine how elections can be held without political parties. How are such decisions made, and what do the people who create such an environment in Georgia think in general?" he said.
According to Gogolashvili's assessment, no political party has been banned in Europe, except for the case in Germany at the end of the 1950s, when fascist and ultra-leftist communist parties were banned. According to him, Germany is now trying to ban an ultra-right party: the government filed a lawsuit, but the Constitutional Court said that they indeed have unconstitutional calls, but have not carried any of them out in practice.
The researcher asked how Georgia plans to carry this out so freely, and noted that the matter has gone so far into excess that "even Ms. Kobakhidze has left the Constitutional Court".
Hearings on the constitutional lawsuit seeking to ban opposition parties were scheduled for October 21, 22 and 23. Opposition politicians wrote about this on social media.
