Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova says that non-regional players are trying to drag Georgia into dangerous adventures of a Russophobic nature, and the current situation is a bone stuck in their throat.

According to Zakharova, Tbilisi has made it clear that it does not intend to act against national interests, because it does not allow dictates from outside.

Zakharova said Moscow understands Tbilisi's efforts to erect a barrier against "destructive influences" coming from outside and to prevent the country from being dragged into Western "Russophobic adventures".

"It must be noted that the situation being created is simply like a bone stuck in the throat of non-regional players who are trying to drag Georgia into dangerous adventures of a Russophobic nature.

I think Tbilisi has said many times, very clearly and broadly, that this is not part of the plans of the Georgian people - [they do not intend] to act against their own national interests, to their own detriment.

We understand the republic's efforts to form a certain bloc, build a certain obstruction from outside against these destructive influences, and at the same time to act on the basis of equal rights and mutual respect with external partners. That is, in my opinion, this corresponds to the definition of "sovereignty" - when you do not allow such destructive influences, the aim of which is not to help you but simply to dictate your will, especially the will that leads to destructive processes," said Maria Zakharova.
