Akubardia: They Are Bringing Back Non-Alternative Elections, But in a Heavier and Uglier Form

Opposition politician Teona Akubardia, commenting on the Constitutional Court proceedings, said that those born in the Soviet Union remember non-alternative elections and that Georgia is being returned "somewhere there", but in an even heavier and uglier form. She said this on the "Palitranius" show "Resume". The court is considering a lawsuit related to the banning of political parties.
According to Akubardia, Bidzina Ivanishvili faces a dilemma. If he dissolves the parties, "he will no longer have a chance to backtrack, change policy and return to the West, he will cut off the path to turning back towards the West".
In her assessment, the start of proceedings in the Constitutional Court is a response to Russia's demands.
"Today, what we see in Georgia, the tactics Russia and Ivanishvili have towards the Georgian population, is the technique of boiling a frog in cold water. The constitutional lawsuit says that the 2008 war was provoked by Saakashvili. Regarding Chorchana, it says that when Gakharia set up an outpost on territory under his control to protect people, they prevented the peaceful reunification of the country. Apparently this is a crime. Russia demands full capitulation from us: recognition of the independence of the occupied territories and then opening the Abkhazia railway. In the constitutional lawsuit, this entry is a response to these demands.
The conclusion of the Tsulukiani commission was for parliament, and parliament is still more a political-legal body, and if the Constitutional Court approves it, in this case the Constitutional Court will say that the protection of the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity, which is the government's obligation, Article 78, the obligation to join NATO and the European Union, and the protection of the people are nullified. In this way, the ruling party itself is disarming, contrary to the constitution, and thereby Russia's interests and positions are strengthened further", said Akubardia.
The Constitutional Court will begin considering the lawsuit to ban five opposition parties on October 21. The plaintiff is Georgian Dream.
